Polar View’s Ice-edge Monitoring Service provides image maps showing the floe edge over select regions in the Arctic. This service allows Northern Communities to access these image maps derived from satellite imaging radar using the Internet. Users can access current and historical image maps of the floe edge as observed from high spatial resolution satellite radar and optical sensors.

The images focus on the boundary between fast ice (attached to the land and immobile) and mobile ice/open water. The water at the ice edge is nutrient rich and attracts a wide range of marine and mammal life.
