Marine Analysis System (MAST)
The Marine Analysis SysTem (MAST) allows detailed scientific analysis to be performed on satellite data acquired over ice and ocean environments. The system is capable of handling data from a number of different sensors, and can produce a variety of output products. MAST contains modules to calculate ice motion information, to extract Sea Surface Temperature (SST) from NOAA AVHRR, and to extract ice concentrations from SSMI/I data. The MAST system is completely compatible with PCI Geomatica formats. MAST products can be used to solve ice analysis problems, verify ice motion models, generate further value-added products such as convergence and divergence zones within the ice pack, and as inputs to ice climatology model.
Highlights of the system include:
Fully compatible with PCI Geomatica.
Automatic for hands-off processing.
Ice Tracking module for geocoded
and non-geo-coded products.
Ice Tracking Algorithm
Generates an ice motion product from two time sequential RADARSAT images.
Outputs the ice motion vectors indicating magnitude and direction of ice drift.
Colour-coded motion vectors sized to indicate magnitude as well as direction.
AVHRR SST Algorithm
Calculates sea surface temperature (SST) from thermal channels of NOAA AVHRR imagery.
Temperature thresholds calculated to mask out clouds.
SSMI / I Ice Concentration Algorithm
